The INS card recording Constantine’s acceptance into the US Army Medical Corps, dated September 2, 1943. The acceptance came less than a year after his NY State medical licensure — placing his career squarely in the WWII military-medicine track.

His sister-in-law Sophie’s later 1960 statement noted “the life expectancy of surgeons is extremely low,” which the army-medical-corps service period helps contextualize.
