Marie Helene Jeannopoulos — known in the family as Penny — was born in New York in 1960, seventeen years after her brother Peter and seven after her brother John. She moved to Santo Domingo in 1980, the same year her father Constantine died there, and married Juan Medina in Santo Domingo on May 15, 1982. She has lived in the Dominican Republic ever since, and she is the family’s continuous link to a household that began on Smyrna soil three generations earlier and ended in the Zona Colonial.
She is the living member closest to Constantine and Sophie’s later years in Santo Domingo, and the principal informant — confirmed in May 2026 — for several corrections that brought this record into alignment with what actually happened: that her parents moved to the Dominican Republic together (not separately, as an earlier draft had implied); that her mother Sophie died in a hospital there in December 2005, the day after Alex and Karyn’s wedding in St. Martin; and that the physician who certified her father’s 1980 death certificate was not, as an earlier draft had wrongly written, ever Vice President of the country.
