Sandra is the seventh of Serge Lebrun and Toye Chassaing’s eight children. As a child she contracted polio, and her mother Toye travelled with her to Cuba for the rehabilitative treatment Haitian medicine could not provide — Cuban paralytic-polio care in the 1950s was among the best in the Caribbean (Castro’s 1959 revolution had not yet come, and Cuban hospitals still drew patients from across the region). Birth date, current location, marriage, and children are still to be documented.
